Because shame lies—but grace still abounds.
Scripture:
“But where sin increased, grace abounded all the more.”
—Romans 5:20 (ESV)
💭 Reflection
You believe in grace.
You’ve talked about it.
Taught it.
Shared it with others.
But tonight… you’re not sure it still applies to you.
Because this time?
You knew better.
You’ve been here before.
You told God it was the last time.
And now, shame has slipped in and twisted the truth:
“Grace is real—but maybe you’ve outrun it.”
“Maybe you’ve grieved the Holy Spirit one too many times.”
That verse—“Do not grieve the Holy Spirit” (Ephesians 4:30)—can become a dagger in moments like this.
Not because it’s untrue, but because shame distorts it.
We imagine the Spirit withdrawing, offended, disgusted, done.
But here’s what we forget: the Spirit grieves because He loves.
And love doesn’t walk away in sorrow—it draws near with redemption.
If your heart is broken over your sin, that’s not proof of distance.
That’s evidence of His presence.
And Romans 5:20 still stands:
“Where sin increased, grace abounded all the more.”
Not less. Not barely enough.
More. Abounded. Overflowed.
Grace doesn’t shrink in the face of repetition.
It doesn’t dry up when you hit your lowest.
It rushes in. Covers. Renews. Lifts.
Your doubt is real.
But His mercy is relentless.
🙏 Prayer
Jesus,
I don’t know if I believe grace still covers this.
I’ve been here before.
I’ve asked forgiveness so many times.
And I wonder if You’re tired of me.
But You say Your grace abounds.
So I bring You my mess—again.
Not because I’m worthy…
But because You are still willing.
Let me believe it’s not too late.
Amen.
🫁 Mercy Over Doubt Practice
Sit with this phrase. Say it slowly, 2–3 times:
“Grace didn’t run out. God didn’t walk away.”
Then whisper:
“I am still held.”
Let that truth anchor your heart.
Thank you for sharing your heart. We have all felt these feels at one time or another.
Thanks Marilyn for posting. Its definitely a journey isn’t it…it’s why we need Him and each other.
